The following vignettes entitled “The Way We Were” were published in the local newspaper, the Salina Journal, during the years 1975 and 1976. Each week a different photo and story was published.
These retrospectives of Salina were in anticipation of our nation’s Bicentennial year, 1976.
We hope you enjoy reading the articles and looking at the pictures as much as we do. Many of the old buildings are no longer standing. They were torn down in the name of progress.
Smoky Valley Genealogical Society has kept many wonderful newspaper articles in its vertical files. We hope that we can share some more of the “treasures” that have been buried for much too long.
